In life, there are moments that stand out as profound, moments that shape the course of our journey. For me, one such moment was the day I finally read “The Greatest Salesman in the World” by Og Mandino—a book that had long sat on my shelf, patiently waiting to share its wisdom. Little did I know this act of reading would lead to a conversation with my father that would forever change my life.
After years of ignoring the book my father had given me, I finally turned its pages. As I read it, I was struck by the simplicity and clarity of its message. It was as if each word was a roadmap for me to follow, an outline for living the life I wanted. Overwhelmed by the realization of what I had been missing, I sought out my father to share my newfound revelation.
“I read the book,” I told him eagerly. His response was simple, yet impactful. “And?” he asked, his eyes holding that look of “I told you so” and a smile.
“It tells you exactly what to do, Dad,” I continued, a sense of regret in my heart. “It’s exactly how you live your life. I am so sorry it took me so long to read it.” He smiled, shook his head, and said, “let’s talk about it.” In that moment, I realized the depth of his wisdom.
My father, one of the greatest salesmen in the world, had been living the principles of this book long before I even knew of its existence. He was a living testament to the principles of persistence, serving others, and tough love. His interactions with others were genuine and designed to make a difference.
Though my father has since passed, his lessons continue to guide me. Whenever I find myself at a crossroads, I recall the unwavering certainty with which he lived his life. I strive to embody the principles he so effortlessly demonstrated—the very principles outlined in “The Greatest Salesman in the World.”
I extend an invitation to you to join me on a journey through the scrolls of “The Greatest Salesman in the World.” Over the next few months, I will share the impact these teachings have had on my life and invite you to share your own experiences.
Don’t wait as long as I did to pick it off the shelf. 😊
Postscript: I acknowledge that this book was written in a time when the term “salesman” was commonly used. Please know that the wisdom within applies to all—saleswomen, salespersons, saleshumans alike. Let’s adapt this message to our diverse beliefs and find what connects us to its timeless truths.
Stay tuned for the first installment as we explore the first scroll of “The Greatest Salesman in the World.”
